Colorado medical practice utilizes voice recognition software for EMRs

First Internal Medicine in Greenwood Village, Colorado recently opted to utilize voice recognition software and web-based access services to ease the implementation of electronic medical records for its internal medicine practice.

According to a a web-based EMR and practice management software provider, the small medical practice is in need of the technology to fuel its growth. Igor Huzicka is the sole provider of the practice, but divides his time between three locations, including both office-based and hospital-based appointments. Through medical speech recognition software and other EMR solutions, Huzicka hopes to have the business and clinical tools necessary to develop his practice.

Voice recognition software will enable the practice to facilitate the process of transitioning from paper to electronic records. For example, Dragon Medical voice recognition solution, which is available on AmericanDictation.com, allows physicians to navigate and dictate medical information and treatment plans directly into patients’ electronic records.

Additionally, Huzicka and First Internal Medicine will utilize a web-based interface that enables him to reach office data through the internet, increasing accessibility.

According to a study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 44 percent of office-based doctors have implemented EMR to some degree. As healthcare organizations strive to improve the way they digitize patient information, speech recognition technology is proving a useful transition tool.
