The board of trustees for Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, Iowa, recently approved funds for the hospital to purchase an upgraded medical transcription system.
According to the Daily Freeman-Journal newspaper, VDMC was approved to spend $36,977 to purchase medical transcription software. The new system will be an upgrade over the hospital's current dictation solution. VDMC will also purchase an application interface that allows existing programs to communicate with new system.
VDMC Chief Financial Officer Alice Heinrichs told the board of trustees that the hospital's current system is outdated. She also said that a new transcription platform, coupled with outsourcing, will help solve the existing backlog.
Department of Social Services for Cumberland County in South Carolina is a similar organization benefiting from updated transcription software. With the technology, the department has cut its review time from an hour to fewer than 20 minutes, according to a Government Computing News report.
