Report:: Transcription services tailor offerings to organizations' needs

Medical transcription service organizations are constantly tailoring their offerings and implementing new technologies to fit customer needs, according to a new report from healthcare market research firm KLAS.

The report, entitled Transcription Services: Competition, Technology, Consolidation, took into account the flurry of acquisitions within the industry. According the report, several recent acquisitions were the result of transcription providers aiming to make their products more flexible.

"Many medical transcription companies are setting themselves up to offer not only transcription, but speech recognition, technology and editing services as well," commented Graham Triggs, KLAS research director and author of the report.

The KLAS report identified industry leader Nuance as a prime example. The company has bought at least five speech recognition solutions, two text input platforms, one network scanning solution and two other transcription companies within the past two years, according to the report.

The report also concluded that the transcription market remains strong, with four of the top vendors scoring at least 90 out of a 100, based on rankings set forth by KLAS.

American Dictation features products and expertise for digital dictation and speech recognition software for companies and organizations in a variety of industries, including legal, healthcare and insurance.
