Nuance may look to expand scope of medical software.

Already the most popular speech recognition platform among doctors in the United States, Nuance may be looking to expand the scope of its software in the healthcare industry, according to a recent Forbes report.

Speaking with the business news provider, Janet Dillione, executive vice president of Nuance's healthcare division, said the company is looking past merely helping doctors better manage their time.

One area Nuance is exploring is the interoperability of the files doctors create. It wants to assist healthcare professionals in storing information and integrating it with other platforms to drive better treatment. Dillione said doctors could use the information for "evidence-based, decision-making."

“We’re about untethered tools, not tied to any one platform. The thing we do well, is help the doctor tell the patients story," she said.

According to Forbes, the integration of health information could also help organizations as they strive to adopt electronic medical records.

More information on the benefits of deploying speech recognition can be found at the American Speech Solutions site. A full line of software from Nuance and other digital dictation tools and software are offered by the website.
