Speech recognition may help healthcare industry adopt electronic medical records.

According to a report recently released by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, 81 percent of U.S. hospitals and 41 percent of physician practices plan to pursue electronic medical records.

The results of the report also suggest that these healthcare organizations will have a greater need for speech recognition software. Adding the technology could help hospitals and doctors' offices enrich the quality of their electronic medical records deployments.

"More and more physicians are putting a private and secure electronic framework in place to realize long-term improvements in quality of care, efficiency and health costs," David Blumenthal, the national coordinator for health IT, said.

Many healthcare organizations have already realized the benefits of speech recognition. By utilizing the technology, industry professionals can add efficiency to their reporting processes. It also provides and effective medium for doctors to document patient encounters and create records with greater detail.

Healthcare workers looking to realize goals of improved productivity and efficiency have an information resource in American Speech Solutions, a division of American Dictation Corp.  The website offers the latest speech recognition and digital dictation software and tools for various professional industries.
