Nuance releases technology for third-party applications

Perhaps in an effort to spread speech recognition even further, industry leader Nuance recently announced it will release its technology to be used on third-party application. The company made the announcement at the recent Macworld Expo 2011 conference.

According to a recent Macworld report, Nuance will make it easier for developers to utilize the company's powerful speech recognition services. With the software development kit and integration, the uses for speech recognition may expand, according to the report.

To start, the initiative is meant for mobile software developers, but may one day also be available for desktop developers.

"It’ll be nice to see Nuance’s services become more ubiquitous as more developers turn out new and updated apps," contributor David Chartier wrote for Macworld.

A recent Wall Street Journal report noted the rapidly increasing popularity of speech recognition, and also predicted the technology may change computing.
