Using Dragon Medical for Transcriptionists

For a long time, our Medical Transcription clients – those wonderful, hard-working folks who keep the patient paperwork flowing – have wondered aloud to us how speech recognition might help them reduce turnaround time and increase business volume.

Today, we can say, we have the answer, thanks to a couple of incredible MT's who proved what we had suspected all along: that Dragon Medical 10.1 could be a time-saving, carpal-tunnel syndrome ending tool for the busy MT, while NOT requiring doctors to do their dictation any differently than they do now.

Basically, it works like this: the MT receives the digital voice recording from the doctor and plays it with their footswitch as usual. However, now they listen to the doctor in their speech recognition headset and re-dictate into the microphone while Dragon types it for them in their word processor. In this manner, the MT can add punctuation, correct grammatical errors, format the output, etc, almost entirely by using their voice.

The biggest hurdle is akin to walking and chewing gum: listening to a dictation, then repeating it in a more "Dragon-friendly" way.

The doctor, as we said earlier, dictates just as before. In fact, unless they're informed, the physician will never know the MT is improving efficiency using Dragon Medical.

For more information on how this can decrease turnaround by as much as 50%, call us at 866-408-1383. We have Dragon Medical 10.1 in stock, and can provide a low-cost training program to get you up and running in no time.
